User Experience Design
My UX work includes ecommerce, lead generation microsites and launches coordinated with branding initiatives. Here are two examples at either end of the range of my capabilities. One is taking a simple portfolio site launch for a commercial building contractor and turning it into a showpiece. The other is breaking through static thinking to reinvent the core website design system for an entire automotive brand.
Responsive Portfolio Site: Three Rivers Corp
This innovative site design is just one example that combined creative thinking with close collaboration with our development team. I was design and UX lead on the team that innovated responsive, visually-rich web experiences for online portfolios. Our work was unmatched in the high-tech industrial space and recognized with an AVA Digital Platinum Award.
General Motors / Buick for Leo Burnett / Digitas
During my time with Leo Burnett Detroit, I provided user centered design leadership in a combined agency and client team. Together, the team engineered solutions on the Buick brand site for better customer engagement and sales growth. As Senior User Experience Designer, I was a leading exponent of improving end-usability, site performance and WCAG compliance. By requesting and analyzing user research to design user centered solutions, I held the team to the highest possible production standards within the General Motors brand message, styles, and development environment.
The proprietary development system was created by our partner agency and managed by the client. Our agency was initially being limited to creative input, but over the course of our redesign of the entire website, I was a proponent of structural changes.
The breakthrough came when I requested the entire grid to be made available: a single change that gave us unlimited flexibility
When our partner agency asked us to list our requests for additional discreet grid arrangements, I saw an opportunity. This systemic limitation had been at the core of our design and functionality difficulties. I had the insight that the entire grid should be opened to any possible arrangement, instead of limiting our changes to enabling discreet instances. This was a watershed moment in our entire design system. Thereafter we benefitted from limitless flexibility for the entire cross-company team and greater usability for the end user.
My entire time with this team required daily attention to the smallest details. I consistently produced design layouts that utilized CSS with presentational and functionality documentation for the authoring team. I also led the improvement of rich pre-production prototypes using Webflow CMS, HTML and CSS. I provided creative direction, reviewing and providing feedback on the development of the component system, navigation, branding, use of imagery, and video editing.
